Building Skills for life
Invention Convention Michigan
Students learn from educators who use The Henry Ford’s Invention Convention Curriculum, which details the seven-step invention process. This process guides students to identify a problem, understand the background, ideate a solution, design a model, build a prototype, test and retest their invention, and communicate the results with others.
Where we started
History of Invention Convention Michigan
The Henry Ford launched Invention Convention Michigan in 2018 as a way to cultivate and showcase the invention and critical-thinking skills of Michigan students. The program started off small, with only 50 students attending the statewide competition in the first year, but over the next two years grew to impact over 2,600 students statewide.
Where we are going
Growing Invention Convention Michigan
To keep up with this growth, ICM switched to a sustainable hub model in 2020, in which Michigan-based organizations and universities oversee countywide programs and competitions that feed into the statewide competition. ICM organizers are constantly looking to grow the program and competition in order to continue highlighting the creativity and ingenuity of students of all ages.
