Sponsor reserves the right to reject or disqualify any Submission which Sponsor, in its sole and absolute discretion, determines to be inconsistent with the letter or spirit of the Official Rules or potentially damaging to its, the Contest’s, or another’s image or reputation.
WINNER DETERMINATION: At the end of the Contest Period, all eligible Submissions will be judged as outlined below:
1. Initial Judging: All submissions will be judged and scored by at least two (2) qualified staff members of the Sponsor in their sole discretion, as described below. The entrants with the three (3) highest Submission scores for each of the applicable awards (9 total) will be deemed the applicable Finalists and will advance to Finalist Judging.
During the initial round of judging, the Submissions will be evaluated based on the following judging criteria (“Judging Criteria”) with each category being scored on a 1-to-5-point scale. Each category represents 25% of the total score.
- Resume (25%): The entrant’s resume will be evaluated based on the following criteria: Does it outline their educational career and experience with innovation/invention education? Do they list any certifications and/or professional development seminars they have completed and what relevance they have to innovation/invention education? Have they received any grants, honors, or awards? Does their resume contain any links to press releases, certifications, and the like?
- Written Statement: Innovation/Invention Education (25%): The written statement will be evaluated on what experience the entrant has with innovation/invention education. Do they use inHub in the classroom, and if so, what courses or materials do they use? Do they participate in Invention Convention, and if so, for how long? Do they have experience with any other innovation/invention education programs? Have they attended professional development for any such programs?
- Written Statement, Classroom Norms and Values (25%): The description of classroom norms will be evaluated on whether they use any of the Model i Habits of Innovators: Do they inspire students to challenge the rules and take risks, demonstrate how to be collaborative and empathetic, and teach the value of learning by staying curious and learning from failure? If so, how?
- Innovation Atlas (25%): The entrant’s score on The Innovation Atlas will be evaluated based on how many barriers they have toward innovation in the area that they teach as determined by the atlas. Those with more barriers will score higher than those with fewer.
2. Tie-Breaking Judging: In the event of an exact tie in the scores of two (2) or more of the judged Submissions, the Innovation Atlas score of the Submissions will be used to determine the winner among the tied Submissions. If both educators have the same ratings on The Innovation Atlas, then class size will be taken into account with the educator with the larger class size scoring higher. If there is still a tie at that point, the
tied Submissions will be rejudged by at least two (2) staff members of the Sponsor who have not previously participated in Teacher Innovator Awards judging and who are determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion..
3. Finalist Judging: The nine (9) Finalists will be interviewed and judged virtually via Zoom by a panel of judges made up of at least three (3) staff members of Sponsor and/or stakeholders who are determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion. The three (3) Finalists for each award will be interviewed by the same panel of judges. Failure to participate will result in the Finalist being ineligible to win. Finalists will be assigned a time to be judged during the below blocks:
- March 3-7, 2025 7:00:00 p.m. ET (UT-4)-10:00:00 p.m. ET (UT-4)
- March 10-14, 2025 7:00:00 p.m. ET (UT-4)-10:00:00 p.m. ET (UT-4)
Finalists will be notified by email on or about February 24, 2025 and allowed to select a preference of time and date for live interviews, but it is not guaranteed they will receive their choice due to time-zone considerations. Finalists should expect the interviews to take 30 to 45 minutes. Interviews will be conducted in English.
Finalists will be judged on their answers regarding clarifications on their written submission, defining what innovation/invention education means to them and other questions. Once judging of all the Finalists is completed, the judge panels will select the potential Grand Prize winners.
All decisions of the Sponsor (and appointed judges) are final and binding. Sponsor reserves the right to select fewer than the stated number of winners, if, in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified Submissions. No more than the stated number of prizes will be awarded. The potential Grand Prize winners will be contacted by the Administrator via telephone and/or email on or about March 31, 2025.
